Security agencies in River State have stepped up their efforts to chase down those involved in illegal oil bunkering. The news gathered from field reports indicates that at least 19 persons are now facing prosecution for the role they have been playing in the heinous business.
According to reports, those in the net include one Dennis Teneilabe, Jeremiah Godwill, Temple Amachree, Batubo(Aka) Oriji, and Okorinawa West(Aka) shaggy. The report suggests that they being investigated for the role they played in putting the life of the people of Rivers State in danger.
To this end, further reports indicates that a director in the River State Ministry of Energy, one Temple Amakiri having been fingered in the illegal trade have been ordered to be queried and handed over to the police for further investigation. The directive was said to have been issued to the Head of Service by the Governor of the State, His Excellency Nyesom Wike.
It would be recalled that the governor has been worried about the recurring soot that overwhelmed the garden city and subsequently vowed to wage war against those involved. The governor declared that those involved in illegal crude oil refining activities would have no respite in that State.
“Those who have been arrested or fingered are certain to be used as examples”, said a source close to the government house who prefer to remain anonymous.
Port Harcourt has been under siege from the activities of illegal crude oil refining characters, a situation that plunged the once lively city into turmoil. It is expected that those already in the net will provide useful information that would lead to the arrest of others currently evading the law.
