The honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, a.k.a. “Gbaja” appears to be sitting on a time bomb. Reason: members of the pro-Buhari group are poised to halt his reign as speaker of the 9th Assembly! They are seething with rage that he dared invite president Buhari to the green chambers to ridicule him. The group members who are obviously strategizing to dethrone him are not taking chances.
President Buhari who commands a cult-like personality in the House failed to turn up when invited to explain deteriorating security concerns based on the advice of the attorney-general and minister for justice Abubakar Malami. Once that move was aborted the next stage swiftly shifted to the Speaker himself who is perceived as a Tinubu boy. The APC as a party itself appears fragmented alongside CPC, CAN, ANPP and some parts of Okorocha APGA group and the new PDP headed by Saraki.
Now that the romance has failed and the party gears up for 2023, any move to re-strategize is read to mean repositioning for that purpose. Among those being touted to replace Femi Gbajabiamila is Yakubu Dogara who defected recently back to APC having contested and won under the PDP. Yakubu Dogara was a former speaker of the 8the National Assembly. It is not clear whether he has been informed but for now there are strong indications to edge out the incumbent. The next few weeks will determine the way the wind blows—and likely not in the favour of Femi Gbajabiamila.
