Oh, the nation can now breathe a relief! Why? The world woke up Thursday morning to the cheerful news of the release of the 350 students captured by elements of the notorious Boko Haram! They were rescued somewhere in Zamfara raising another crucial question: How were they marched to Zamfara in such large contingent without detection by the same security forces? Previously, the spectre of having to go through another harrowing #bringourboys back experience was inconceivable; bearing in mind the long and tortuous route the nation endured for the disgusting #bringourgirls back drama, this new development wasn’t going to be tolerated.
As was the case in the past when the nation found themselves helpless, confused and dejected they felt this one wasn’t going to be different. Before now, Nigerians were tired of the oft-repeated official line of press releases “we are doing our best” and the vows “we are on top of this situation “amidst depressing stories from those in captivity. But now, thanks to the tireless effort of the combined security the nation can now heave a sigh of relief from this violent escapade. But the lesson here should not be lost to hardliners of ethnic hegemony; those who claim it is their right to rule: Nigeria is not the exclusive preserve of anybody. In a crisis, the nation stands together—so it should be in political appointments and distribution of perquisites of the office!
