Right now in the entire Nigerian landscape, he is the major subject. The dust generated by the woeful defeat of the fanatical Oduma of Iyamholand, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomole in the just concluded hotly contested governorship elections in Edo State has not yet settled; but enemies of democracy are already at work. The crew of the newspaperman has picked up from the grapevine that some incorrigible elements with close ties to the grounded Oduma are set to scuttle the overwhelming victory of the people’s governor via a secret impeachment plot. “We understand that those radical assemblymen who defected at the last stage to swell the ranks of the previous fourteen members are the brains behind the suspected impeachment plot”, disclosed an insider. “They are not happy that Obaseki’s won convincingly and want to try this last attempt “, the insider further disclosed. Most outspoken of those implacable enemies of democracy is Washington Osifo and Chris Okaegben. Mr Yekini Idiaye, former deputy Speaker is also believed to be in the plot as well as one Mr Victor Edoror and Mr Emmanuel Agbaje of Akoko Edo Constituency 11. “These failed lawmakers were actively used to destabilize Obaseki’s government for several months”, said Chris Abulu, a retired civil servant. “Now they think they can impeach Obaseki with what?” he queried. But as the plot thickens, investigations suggest a prominent lawyer and former three-time lawmaker who doctored the petition that Abubakar Malami signed to deploy police security as cover to the renegade Assemblymen is fingered as the one pulling the strings behind the scene. “Anyone who knows him should go and tell him to desist from acts of sabotage”, said Harrison Igunbor. “This man should be thinking of how to come up with ideas that will move the State forward and not the reverse, he added. Nevertheless, the Edo people are waiting for him. In a postscript, the newspaperman blames divisive factors for the turbulent period Obaseki went through. That stage was evidently characterized by amongst others: intolerance, manipulation, civil disobedience, strife, deception, doublespeak, conspiracy, treachery and if possible backstabbing. Oshiomole the major architect of that infamous era never showed remorse until his train was emphatically grounded in the final battle. He was more at home with destructive vices than anything else. He is adept at promoting incredible crisis and somehow has no answers to developmental policies. He promoted few friends consistently; people like Oseni Alamai, Clement Agba, Mustapha Lecky, and Gani Audu who saw him as a tin-god. But he disappointed many aides and associates who also trusted him and often dumped them when it matters. One of them Is Patrick Obahiagbon alias “grammar”. Others are Dr Pius Odubu and company. Those who defected and abandoned Obaseki at the last stages believed more on Oshiomole than the oath of office they took. Such people should never be given any official position again. However, on his part, the victorious Godwin Obaseki has more work to do than before now that he has eliminated the threat before him. There are people in APC who moved with him to PDP, people in PDP that he met and those in Diaspora that supported him. Of course there the less privileged people who yearned for him as well as those outside the State that worked stridently for his success through the social media. Governance is taking a new form. He must find a way to accommodate them. In all, Prince Tony Momoh truly proved to be the real godfather in Edo State. He counselled against disqualifying Obaseki; he warned APC of the consequence; today, he has been vindicated. Kudos to Prince Tony Momoh, the real godfather we have—and can appreciate.
