To some political observers, 2023 may yet be a long way from now, but not the cabals who see it as next door. Ever thirsty for power and myopic in foresight, the stage is set for a titanic battle; who gets what is the subject of burning ambition propelling the cabal to move faster.
Reports emanating from their stronghold suggest they have perfected their strategy and next is to put square pegs in round holes.. But their choice of candidate and the unwavering position of politicians from the South West continue to plague them.
For the All Progressive Congress (APC), the cabal is said to have settled for former SGF of Kanuri extraction who speaks eloquently and a former governor of River State also a serving minister. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on their own are alleged to have settled for a current governor of one of the core Northern States who was a former Speaker of the House of Reps and a sitting governor from the riverine areas.
But the dilemma is that, the Presidency cannot remain in the North, come 2023!
Despite these permutations though, the cabals are sure to face herculean task from the South West power block where  the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is nursing the same ambition.
The Asiwaju, sources say has vowed not to cede any ground in the race for the top job fearing that this may well be his last shot at the post. But above all, zoning which allowed for every component of the country to vie for the presidency cannot be easily wished away. It is sure to be a cauldron.
And as the plot thickens, the names of Pastor Tunde Bakare, Babatunde Fashola has also cropped up as possible running mate to the cabals first choice. Prof Yemi Osinbajo whose faith hangs in the balance, is said not to be having the best of times as reports say he is on the verge of being edged out of the equation.
He is believed to be a casualty of the high level distrust that exists at such a level paving the way for anyone to be sacrificed. Although the terrain is still slippery, what is clear is that it is not going to be an easy ride for the cabals even with all their huge financial war chest.
