Governor Obaseki is blazing the trail in Edo State with the prompt cancellation of what was previously known as “double taxation”, a strategy through which the people had been systematically bled to death by non-state actors. This action has received a tremendous applause from the Edo State public.
The government has also concluded plans to produce 25,000 metric-tonnes of maize this season for which 5000 hectares of land that will create employment for thousands of young men and women is about to be unveiled. Obaseki has also rehabilitated more than 45 roads within the Edo metropolis and is working on major other streets in the State.
The Azura Power Plant will soon come on stream to boost electricity supply in the State by 450 megawatts; an additional 1000 megawatts of power will be added following an agreement with Siemens, a German company that has indicated interest in working with the Edo State government.
In Education, the government has secured approval for the Tayo Akpata University to come on board while his government has commenced the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to deal with the challenges in pension administration.
He has also set in motion the first phase of the use of GIS in planning Land administration in the State. This will cover some 2000 radius at first to drop the cost of C of O. The Gelegele Seaport has been surveyed and a technical team is working on the seaport; two large prolific gas fields discovered close to the location will be able to generate more than 1000 megawatts of power for 20 years,. “Edo State is blessed”, the governor informed reporters.
