Edo Assembly: Speaker Withdraws Suit Against NASS

Date:

The Edo State House of Assembly and its Speaker, Francis Okiye on Thursday withdrew the suit they filed to stop the move by the National Assembly to take over the State Assembly’s functions.

This is coming barely two weeks after Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja made an order restraining the National Assembly from going ahead with the takeover plan pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

The Judge had fixed Thursday for hearing of the suit in which the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani Omolori, was joined as the respondent.  But in the resumed hearing on Thursday, the Plaintiff’s lawyer, Mr. Silvanus Ugwu from the Chambers of Ola Olanipekun (SAN), told the judge that his clients had instructed him to withdraw the case for which lawyer Henrietta Emedum did not oppose.

The judge, thereafter struck out the case.
